This time last year my mom was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer that spread to the liver and lung. I dropped everything and went to be by her and my father's side during brutal chemotherapy (which still continues, indefinitely). This song began as a self-soothing exercise and comes from the place where sadness meets hope.

Cancer and chemo want to knock the spirit out of you; what is so inspiring about my Mom is the magnetic field she emanates no matter how hard it gets. I can't find the words to capture the struggle I feel along with my Mom. My job as her support is to reverberate that light within her. When her light runs dim, we are here to shine the way.

On my birthday today, I want to honor my mom, who birthed me.
